Currently, Nunavut is working to establish a more robust system of health care providers. Typically, the community health nurse leads an interdisciplinary team and is the first point of contact for patients. Different health care providers can be on a team, depending on circumstances and whether or not the providers are on site, visiting, or consulting via telemedicine. For example, the Northern Medical Unit has physicians on call from other provinces, who can consult via phone or email. Some communities have physicians or physiotherapists who visit regularly.

However, the core team in community health centres across Nunavut is comprised of two community health nurses, a social worker, community health representatives, clerk interpreters, and an x-ray technician.
